Atmosphir release date announced!

Minor Studios have announced a release date for their 3D platform / adventure game tool Atmosphir.

Atmosphir is due to be released on the 7th of June 2010 according to the Atmosphir facebook page.

Atmosphir is both a game engine and content creation tool, allowing players to experience a variety of community developed games and allows designers to create 3D platform and adventure games, based upon a large amount of pre-developed content.

The beta for Atmosphir has been out for while in a closed test environment, which has not been made available to the general public. The online response from those beta testers has generally been very positive, notably comparing much of the content as being a cross between Super Mario (64, Galaxies, etc..) and Lego (Star Wars, Batman, etc..) and in general quite enjoyable to play. The main criticisms presented are that some of the graphic content feels dated and camera angles occasionally prove frustrating.

Atmosphir will be released as a free product but should contain an in game purchase system to allow the purchase of premium content (Avatars) and expanded graphic content for designers.

Here are some of the games features taken directly from the Atmosphir website:

  • Explore thousands of challenging levels filled with puzzles, combat, secrets and old-school platforming
  • Play with a console-quality 3D graphics engine, right in your browser window
  • Join your friends in cooperative or competitive multiplayer matches and move up the leaderboard rankings
  • Customize your character and choose from hundreds of outfits, weapons and special effects
  • Design your own levels in minutes with a simple but deep editor tool

I’m hoping this will turn out to be a great piece of software, as 3D platform games have been rather neglected on the PC platform over the last few years, I just hope that there is also an option to not play in your browser….
